The upside to a Level 1 charger, however, is that you likely already have one in your garage. All you need is a 120 volt outlet, which is the standard for home outlets across the United States. Level 2 EV Chargers
Level 2 chargers need 240 volts, which means you either need EV charger installation to hardwire one on your property or you need a specially-designed portable outlet-based EV charger that plugs into your regular outlet. We usually recommend this level of charger for homes and personal use because it charges 5-7x more quickly than a Level 1 charger while still meeting residential energy usage restrictions. Level 3 EV Chargers
This third level of EV charger is only used in commercial capacities like public charging stations. They’re often referred to as rapid chargers, since they can charge your electric vehicle in an hour. Level 3 chargers are not often found in homes due to their 480 volt and 400 amp energy requirement, which exceeds what most residences can handle. For that reason, HendrixAir does not install this type of charger for our clients. It’s also important to note that some vehicles are unable to charge with this type of charger, so it’s best to do your research on your particular electric car before plugging into a Level 3 charger.
